As Halloween approaches, the cool and darker skies easily draw my thoughts toward the macabre; actually, let's face it, I'm always pondering that subject anyway. I was thinking in particular how our beliefs in death and the afterlife tend to color our perception of life and the rituals we all engage in. As humans, we envision the realm we move to - from here - as a dark, cold and frightening environment where scary things go bump in the night. We look upon death as a path of no return, where those who cross over the border are lost forever, never to be seen or heard from again.
Halloween has always been a reminder that the only thing that separates us from the other side is merely a thin veil of perception. It is likened to a partially open door that invites seekers to look through and explore the true origin of our birth place - for we all begin and return there.
How can we bridge that eternal gap though, that seems to separate us from maintaining an undying connection we have with our spiritual families? How can we indulge our intense desire to keep these relationships from being forgotten, like an old torn family photo of a moment frozen in time? Our dream state is one way since it is an etheric gateway to other dimensions. And also, speaking to them - even though they are not physically here - and opening yourself to listening and feeling their responses. Our intuitive nature is the one aspect of ourselves that connects our borders. The one thing we have in common that works in both environments.
For the "dead" are not gone. They are just on the other side of the wall and listening intently.
